The Students Representative Council under the aegis of the Dean of Students Affairs has sworn in newly elected executives to steer its affairs for the 2020/2021 academic year.

In a brief handing over ceremony held on Friday December 18, 2020 at the ATU Guest Lodge, the outgoing Chief Justice, Mr. Benjamin Owusu, administered the oath of office to the new executives to allow the Safo Kwesi-led administration pave way for a new leadership led by Mr. Desmond Boateng. The Outgoing Executives handed over their respective symbols of authority to the incoming.

Mr. Safo in his farewell address thanked the entire university community for their support and wished the newly elected executives well in their respective offices. He listed among his achievements – the provision of two water reservoirs to curb the issue of water shortage in the old and new hostels, financial and monetary support to the Senior Correctional Centre in Accra, advocacy against sexual harassment on campus with conspicuous signages at vantage spots among others.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Desmond Boateng thanked the outgone executives and the entire student body for the trust reposed in him and pledged to continue with the good works of his predecessors, bearing in mind their needs and also the reputation of the University. He promised to cooperate with Management to run a smooth, peaceful and fruitful academic year.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel Nii Odai congratulated both the new and outgone executives; especially for the former’s collaboration with Management during the helm of the COVID-19 pandemic which severely affected academic work. He praised the outgone executives for adopting a dialogue approach for which no serious skirmish ensued during their reign, and called on the incoming executives to chart a similar trajectory for a smooth academic calendar. He further assured the new executives of Management’s support.

The Dean of Students, Dr. Michael Okae Adow, also congratulated both the outgone and the new executives for their boldness in taking up student leadership. The Pro-Vice- Chancellor, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, eulogised the leadership of the outgone executives and stressed collaboration between Management and the new executives. ‘‘Let’s continue working together. Management is here to promote your welfare and not fight you.’’

Also present at the ceremony were the University Librarian, the Finance Director, Heads of Departments and other members of staff.

The new leadership will serve a term of one year.
