Accra Technical University’s (ATU) Academic Department shut down over COVID-19 Fears
The Management of the Accra Technical University (ATU) has reportedly closed down the academic department of the university after a staff tested positive for the novel coronavirus that has killed 95 peoples.
The Accra-based Technical University recorded the first case of the virus on campus a week after a final year student reported to school after the March 16 school closure.
The spokesperson of the Accra Technical University, Faustina Nana Kwadua in an interview with Starr FM monitored by Georgeweb.org said the staff of the academic department has been isolated and the block fumigated to prevent an outbreak.
She consequently said there was no cause for alarm since samples had been taken from the persons who came into contact with the coronavirus patient.
“The number of people that had close contact with her was counselled and re-assured. Their samples were taken so currently, we are waiting for results. We are talking about eight people. At the moment we have to wait to get the results of the other people.” she told the news media.
