Anton Fier Cause Of Death And Net Worth At Death

The US drummer played with Bill Laswell, Mick Jagger, the Lounge Lizards and the Feelies and was the founder of the Golden Palominos.

Anton Fier is a name that has appeared on so many albums over the past 40-plus years that it was considered something of a legend in its lifetime. And that in a scene that tended not to be the case with the legends. Fier was also a drummer, so he was usually at the back of the stage. Unlike others who just try to keep the rhythm, Fier often pulled the strings from there. It’s over. As has now become known, Anton Fier died in August at the age of 66, and the cause of death is currently unknown.

Born on June 20, 1956, in Cleveland, Ohio, Anton Fier moved to New York in the late 1970s, where he quickly made himself irreplaceable in the downtown scene and got involved in many projects at the same time. A founding member of John Lurie’s jazz-smashing combo The Lounge Lizards, he once drove through the tunnel over to New Jersey and played on the Feelies’ epoch-making debut: Crazy Rhythms (1980). The following year he formed the experimental band The Golden Palominos.

A band as an open system, which, like Bill Laswell or Arto Lindsay, had integrated some of the weirdest heads of the No New York scene and was a kind of creative pool. The band was always active with breaks until the end.

In addition, Fier was a part of Pere Ubu, Bob Mold and his band Sugar and drummed for acts and greats such as Mick Jagger, Gil Scott-Heron, Herbie Hancock, Yoko Ono, Laurie Anderson, Material, John Zorn and the Swans. He played with Jack Bruce from Cream, Peter Brötzmann and Syd Straw. To name just a few.

His willingness to experiment and his playing, which is therefore required to be constantly innovative, made him an exceptional phenomenon on the drums. He was also a sought-after producer, producing Victoria Williams, Lori Carson and Joey Henry as well as albums by his own band. (Karl Fluch, September 22, 2022)
