BECE 2020: 269,419 Males and 262,286 Females from 17,440 Schools sit for Exams Nationwide

The conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates, 2020 begins on Monday, 14th September, 2020 across the country. The Council has put in place measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the examination.

Some of the pre-examination activities undertaken include briefing of Supervisors, Invigilators and Depot keepers and printing of question papers under tight security. The candidature for this year’s examination is 531,705.

Out of the total number, 269,419 are males while 262,286 are females, drawn from 17,440 participating schools. The examination will take place at 2,007 centers across the country.

The Council (WAEC) is calling on all examination officials to be vigilant and diligent in executing their duties.

Meanwhile, the Council wishes all candidates writing the examination success in their papers. Candidates are urged to be wary of the activities of rogue website operators, whose primary duty is to circulate fake questions, lure candidates into subscribing to these questions thereby taking their focus off their books.


Supervisors, invigilators and candidates are reminded that mobile phones are not allowed at the examination centres .
