‘Dormitory Blocks to be designated as Isolation Centres in SHSs’ – Nana Addo directs

All Senior high schools (SHSs) throughout the country have been tasked to designate one dormitory block each for use as isolation centre as final year students to resume school tomorrow Monday, June 22, President Akufo-Addo has directed.

As part of measures to ensure safety in schools, he added that each of the over 1,100 senior high schools in the country has been assigned to a health facility within their locality to respond and attend to suspected COVID-19 cases should the need be.

The President in his 12th televised nation’s address stated “Each such senior has school has been mapped to a health facility and care will be provided to the sick by nurses assigned to these schools,”`

Akufo-Addo explained that the partial reopening of schools for final year students is to enable them to complete the 2019/2020 academic year and proceed to sit for their WASSCE exams. Form 2 Gold track students also to reopen on Monday, June 22 for six weeks of intensive teaching and learning to complete their final semester after which they will vacate.

His Excellency said the waste management giant, Zoomlion Ghana Limited had fumigated and disinfected the 1,167 Senior High Schools across the country to ensure against bed bug infestation and COVID-19 respectively.

Additionally, “Each student, teaching and non-teaching staff, invigilator and school administrator, numbering some 800,000, will be provided with three pieces of reusable face masks” the President said.

He however indicated that two of the washable reusable face masks will be provided to the students on Monday while the third will be given within at the mean time.

To ensure safety on the way to school, President Akufo-Addo has entreated parents to provide their wards and children with at least one more face mask.

According to Nana Akufo-Addo a total of 18,000 Veronica Buckets, 800,000 pieces of two hundred milliliter sanitizers, 36,000 rolls of tissue paper, 36,000 gallons of liquid soap, and 7,200 thermometer guns have been distributed respectively.
