Gender Minister, Hon. Cynthia Morrison Wins Feminine Ghana Achievement Honorary Award

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison was honored with a commendable award at the recent 6th Feminine Ghana Achievement Awards held in Accra on Friday 4th September, 2020.

Hon. Cynthia Morrison was honoured for her outstanding contribution to the Affectionate Delivery of Gender Care & Protection. The award also praised her for her good Management of Societal Issues in Ghana.

The 6th Feminine Ghana Achievement Awards themed ‘Implementation of Affirmative Action to Improve the Status of Ghanaian Women in the Era of COVID-19’ was organised by the Business Executive Magazine Ltd.

The award scheme seeks to publicly recognize women in Ghana who have achieved outstanding accomplishments in various forms of endeavour across both the public and private sectors. It also aims to identify and publicize role models whose accomplishments would encourage and inspire women in general across the country to similarly conduct their activities and behavior in exemplary fashion.

Finally, the awards seek to win the support of the male gender towards affirmative action which would enable the nation benefit from the full potential of women.

About 35 women were awarded for their exemplary conduct, performance and achievement in specified aspects or sectors of public governance, professional and business activities, and their contributions to the well- being of society.

Delivering her acceptance speech, the Minister for Gender, Children & Social Protection, Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison thanked the organisers for bestowing on her such honour. She equally expressed her appreciation to the Staff of the Ministry, her Deputy Minister and the Chief Director, Dr. Afisah Zakariah (who was also present at the award ceremony) for their support and dedication in the delivery of the ministry’s mandate towards society.

According to Hon. Cynthia Morrison, each awardee (herself included) has the responsibility to work assiduously to make meaningful impacts that will drive a sustainable change in society.

She added that though she was humbled by the recognition given her; the award, at the same time, comes as a stepping stone to challenge herself to do more for the children and vulnerable in society.

“I urge all of you, our brilliant, hardworking and compassionate women to continue with the good work you are doing. I would like to make the call on us women, to collaborate together. No matter the sector you operate from, let’s support and work with each to bring to effect the change we want in society.
I want us to look beyond the awards and ensure that we leave a legacy and a solidified recognition in the hearts of people by our actions towards society”, the Gender Minister stressed.

Speaking briefly on the theme of the 6th Feminine Ghana Achievement Awards which is, Ms. Hannah Acquah (CEO of TKC & Stakeholder of the Executive Business Magazine Ltd.), stated that Ghana cannot attain UN’s Sustainable Development Goals on women advancement if the country does not pass the Affirmative Action Bill (AAB) and implement the law effectively.

Other honorary awardees at the ceremony were H.E. Claudia Turbay Qiuntero, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Columbia Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Stephanie S. Sullivan, United States Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Anne Sophie Ave, Ambassador of France to Ghana, H.E. Maria Elisa de Luna, Brazil Ambassador to Ghana, and H.E. Anne-Claire Dufay, the UNICEF Country Representative.
All honorary awardees, each made a statement in support of the development and welfare of the girl child and women.

Female achievers present at the event received awards in categories such as the Most Outstanding Female in Public Relations and External Affairs, Most Outstanding Female in Tertiary Education, Most Outstanding Female in Media Production and Management, Most Outstanding Female Ambassador in Protocol Services and Most Outstanding Female in Corporate Social Responsibility, and many more.

The 6th Feminine Ghana Achievement Awards ceremony was climaxed with the inauguration of the ‘SHE’ Achievers which was performed by Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison.
