The Ghana Scholarship Secretariat which stems from the Office of the President has today extended the Deadline for Scholarship Applications for the 2020/2021 academic window.
The original deadline was supposed to be 15th May 2020 after which qualified applicants would be called for an interview in their district/municipal office. However, after considering so many factors, and pressure from the press and general public, the Secretariat has decided to extend the deadline for the submission of applications for the 2020/2021 scholarship window. This they said would help the students who due to one reason or the other, have not been able to apply, do so.
The Deadline for the submitting applications for the 2020/2021 scholarship window has since been change to Monday, 18th May, 2020 , as shown in the picture above from their website.
This change was necessary after some students complained bitterly of not being able to apply through the online platform that the secretariat had provided. Some also complained of the fact that they were not able to access internet cafes on time, because their community was put under movement restrictions amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
As part of the digitization of governmental and public administration processes in Ghana, the manual scholarship application process that people had to go through to secure a government of Ghana Scholarship had been replaced by an Online application application system. This was launched by the vice president of Ghana, His Excellency Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia on 1st April, 2020.
The application process has also been decentralized, this means that applicants wouldn’t have to go to Accra, which is the capital city of Ghana for this application processes, especially during the interview stage. Applicants can therefore complete the process online, upload all the needed documents and undertake an online aptitude test to qualify for an interview invitation. After passing the aptitude test (i.e. 50% +) , an applicant would then be invited to his Municipal/Metropolitan Office to be interviewed based on which an applicant would be selected to benefit from the scholarship package.
