Ghana’s Lockdown: The Concept of Greater Kumasi, Meaning and Geography.

The concept of ‘Greater Kumasi’ simply means other adjoining towns that were traditionally not part of Kumasi but have become part of the Kumasi Metropolis due to urbanization and expansion of the city.

For instance, Ejisu, Asokore Mampong, Pakyi, Fawoade Mampongten, Atonsu-Agogo and surrounding communities on the Lake Side Road, Kenyasi and other adjoining towns were traditionally not part of Kumasi but has now been partly because of expansion.

The same analogy can be made of Kasoa, which despite being a part of the Central Region has virtually been part of Accra. Nsawam also falls under the Eastern Region but has virtually been part of Accra hence the concept of ‘Greater Accra.’ Even most parts of Aburi have virtually been part of Accra.
