The Earl Aggrey led Committee has appointed Bright Havilah Obour Jnr as the next GIJ-SRC president. Out of three SRC presidential aspirants, Havilah Obour Jnr came out victorious with Philip Opare as his vice. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the second semester of the 2019/2020 academic year, which was an election year to elect new SRC executives, had to come to a halt.

As a result, the Earl Aggrey led Committee was set up to vet and appoint SRC aspirants. Already there was a drastic fall out from the presidential race and other portfolios due to alleged issues of illegality on the side of the outgone SRC and the committee.

According to them, the setup of the committee is unconstitutional hence their withdrawal from the race.

Scores of students also kicked against it accusing the outgone SRC of suppressing the will of students to vote.

Meanwhile, with the General Secretary position been vacant, Edith Gyekye was appointed as the External Affairs Commissioner, Ishmael Awuni as the Financial Secretary, Derrick Ofosu as the Organizing Secretary, and Esther Marfowaa Dorman as the Women’s Commissioner.

However, the memo issued by the Earl Aggrey led Committee today Novemebr 11, 2020 indicated, “The vacant general secretary position will be opened to the student populace for fresh application to be filled since the initial two aspirant withdrew their application”.

The committee also said the date and process of application would be communicated to the student populace
