GIJ to Appoint Interim SRC Executives for 2020/2021 Academic Year

The Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) has decided to appoint interim Students Representative Council (SRC) executives for the 2020/2021 academic year.

Speaking in an interview, Defender General of the GIJ SRC, Edem Vine Dei Tutu disclosed the current Student Representative Council executives (SRC) of the Ghana Institute of Journalism have reached a consensus to have a seven-member interim committee to lead the students till an official election is held.

“It must be known that the problem at hand is not that conversant. Both Parties have agreed that there should be a seven-member committee.” he said.

Edem Tutu further added that there are discussions on-going with the Dean of Student Affairs and the General Assembly of the Institute to find members to constitute the seven-member interim committee.

“The disagreement lies in who constitutes the seven-member committee. The Dean of students is doing a good job as at now. He has asked to sit down and draw the way forward.” he said.

The crippling effect of COVID-19 has disrupted many activities in the academic calendar and the transition of student leadership in various universities is no exception.

Many universities across the country have resorted to the appointment of interim students representative council executives with the University of Ghana setting the pace followed by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
