It has emerged that all Basic and Senior High Schools in the country will reopen fully on January 18, 2021.
The decision to officially open all schools from nursery, kindergarten, primary to the Senior High School level for effective academic work to take place was taken following a cabinet meeting on 30th December 2020.
Cabinet also approved that effective COVID-19 safety protocols should be put in place before reopening. President Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, 30th December 2020, met cabinet to decide on the possible reopening of schools in January.
According to Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Government has been in discussions with various stakeholders within the sector to come up with a comprehensive and detailed plan on the reopening of schools and hence, the President’s meeting with his cabinet is to finalize and provide a way forward.
In a Twitter post on Tuesday 29th December 2020, the Minister disclosed that “President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo prepares to meet cabinet tomorrow for a decision on the possible reopening of schools in January. Key on his agenda will be to examine the proposals for assuring the safety of our children, should schools reopen.”
Schools in the country were closed on March 16, 2020, after Ghana recorded two confirmed cases in the country but they were later partially reopened for final year students to write their exit examination.
