No ‘Break Time’ for Final-year JHS Students when school re-opens’ – COHBS
Following the June 29 school reopening for final year students in Junior High Schools, the President for the Heads of Conference of Basic Schools (COHBS), Mrs. Mercy Akayila Anuembi has said there will be no ‘break time’ for students during school hours.
Mrs. Mercy Akayila Anuembi, in an interview with Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show on Wednesday, monitored by Georgeweb.org indicated that the final year students upon resumption of academic activities will commence classes at 8: 00 am and ends at 1:00 pm each day.
The President of the Conference, however, said the short pause for lessons usually called break time, for students to refresh their minds and do other things not related to academic activities will be halted.
“The number of hours to be spent in school has been reduced from 8 am to 1 pm, break times will also not be given to students. Parents are advised to cook for their wards when coming to school since food will not be made available on school compounds” she explained.
Mrs. Mercy Akayila Anuembi furthered that, the safety measures put in place by the Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) addition to the Ministry of Education’s outlined COVID-19 preventive protocols are to help prevent the 2020 BECE candidates from contracting the novel coronavirus that has as of the time writing this post claimed 95 lives.
His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo in his 10th televised nation’s address announced for schools to be reopened to soley final year students in the country as part of first phase of easing the restrictions imposed on schools.
President Akufo-Addo further explained that the partial reopening of schools for the final years is to enable them complete the 2019/2020 academic year and prepare to sit for their final examinations.
He indicated that final year students in the tertiary institutions are to report to school on June 15, while SHS 3 students together with form 2 Gold track students report on June 22 and then final year students in Junior High Schools (JHS) resume on June 29 respectively.
