NSMQ 2020 Prelims: St. Thomas Aquinas dominates St. Mary’s and Ghanata in Contest 1

What began with a somber atmosphere ended as an incredible win for St. Thomas Aquinas SHS showing off their wits with 65 points with St. Mary and Ghanata SHS trailing behind.

Ghanata SHS, St Thomas Aquinas SHS and St. Mary’s SHS have set the ball rolling as the first to contest in this year’s NSMQ Preliminary Stage. What began with a somber atmosphere ended as an incredible win for St. Thomas Aquinas SHS showing off their wits with 65 points, with St. Mary’s SHS and Ghanata SHS trailing behind with 30 and 25 points respectively.Contestants on stage with the Quizmistress, Dr. Thelma Ohene-Agyei

St Thomas Aquinas SHS, the first to get a question correct, also had the highest score in the first round, and cemented their place in the One-eighth Stage in this year’s National Science & Maths Quiz National Championship.The victorious team from St. Thomas Aquinas SHS

In Round Three, none of the three schools won the Prudential Life NSMQ Star, sponsored by Prudential Life Insurance. St Thomas Aquinas SHS came close with six points. The team with the perfect score of 10 from solving the Problem of the Day would have won GH¢2000.00, i.e. GH¢500.00 to each of the three contestants and their teacher.In Round Four, St Thomas Aquinas SHS made a substitution replacing Obed Darko with Nana Kwame Ofori.

With a whopping 65 points at the end of Contest 1, St. Thomas Aquinas SHS also stands a chance of winning the AirtelTigo Highest Scorer of the Day award worth GH¢1000.All hope is not lost for St. Mary’s SHS as there is a possibility of them competing with St Margaret SHS and West Africa SHS in Contest 3 if they emerge as one of the 14 top runners-up in the Preliminary Stage.
