NSMQ 2020: St. Thomas Aquinas SHS beats Ghanata and St. Mary’s SHS to Win First Contest in the Prelims
St Thomas Aquinas SHS has won the first contest in the preliminary stage of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ). The first contest on Tuesday morning was held at the GNAT Hall of the University of Ghana featured three schools. Ghanata senior high school (SHS), St Mary’s SHS, and St Thomas Aquinas SHS battle it out for a place in the next round.
Ephraim Amarquaye, Obed Darko and Nana Kwame represented one-time winner, St Thomas Aquinas showed a lot of promise from the beginning of the contest.

Ghanata SHS represented by Nathaniel Dordoye and Raphael Koduah as well as St Mary’s Erica Mensah and Hillary Mensah were not a match for the Osu-based school
In the third round in which students deal with the ‘Problem of the day’, St Thomas Aquinas leapt with 41 points leaving St Mary’s and Ghanata SHS with 17 and 9 points respectively.
At the end of the contest, St Thomas Aquinas SHS lead the table with 65 points, followed by St Mary’s SHS with 30 points and Ghanata SHS with 25 points.
Due to Covid-19 pandemic, supporters of various schools were not allowed at the venue but could partake virtually through the NSMQ Facebook and YouTube channel.
