Okudzeto Ablakwa orders solar handwashing sinks for schools in his constituency

The Member of Parliament for the North Tongu Constituency Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has ordered touchless solar handwashing system for schools in his constituency.

The touchless solar handwashing system was developed by the Kumasi based innovator Mr Richard Kwarteng Anning to help fight the coronavirus pandemic through frequent hand washing.

Mr Ablakwa made the information known on his social media handles in the early hours of Sunday, 14th June 2020 after a meeting with the innovator Mr Richard Kwarteng Anning.

“Had a great meeting last Friday with Mr Richard Kwarteng Anning, the Kumasi based innovator who developed the touchless solar handwashing system to help combat COVID-19. Happy to support a young Ghanaian entrepreneur by ordering some quantities for free distribution to schools in my beloved constituency.” He announced.

The Lawmaker is therefore calling on President Akufo-Addo’s government to set aside a portion of the Coronavirus Alleviation Programme Fund to support young Ghanaian innovators who are using their gifted skills and talents in strategic ways to help the fight against the novel Coronavirus pandemic. “May I humbly reiterate my call both in Parliament and here on social media for Government to make a special allocation out of the numerous COVID-19 funds and pursue deliberate strategic policy to assist all the amazing young Ghanaians whose innovations during this pandemic have held us spellbound.” He suggested.

The Ranking Member on Foreign Affairs has also called on the government to put into actions strategic policies and the resources of the country to assist Ghanaian innovators and entrepreneurs.

The former Deputy Minister for Education is also calling on president Nana Akufo-Addo’s government through the Ministry of Education to order the touchless solar handwashing system for all schools across Ghana as government is determined for schools to reopen.

“The presidential mention was good but it’s time to put the nation’s resources and strategic policy direction behind these brilliant individual efforts. Government should also consider placing large orders, particularly for schools seeing that Government is determined to further ease restrictions. We can do it. Let’s all support our own. That’s how giants are made.” He proposed.
