Ghana’s best high schools have a reputation for providing top-notch education that allows for students to pass successfully on to higher education.
AB Review, a company that researches and compiles information on schools, recently released its list of top 25 schools in Ghana using statistics of school performances from 2011 till date.
AB Review looked at the number of students with pass marks from A1 to C6 over a period of five years. This is a purely academic ranking that ranks the top school in each region with the best average percentile of students that score from A1 to C6 as compared to the total number of students presented to write the West Africa Secondary School Certificate. Examinations (WASSCE) over the last five years.

1. UPPER WEST REGION
ST. FRANCIS XAVIER JNR. SEMINARY
Xavier boys claimed the 2nd position in the overall high school rankings, and rank number one of schools in the Upper West Region. Nandom Senior High came a close second in the region

2. UPPER EAST REGION
NOTRE DAME SEMINARY SNR. HIGH SCH.
There is only one household name when it comes to high schools in the upper east region of Ghana. Noter Dame tops the region with a respectable average pass rate of 81.29%.

3. NORTHERN REGION
GHANA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
Ghanasco beat Tamasco as Northern Region’s most consistent academic performer. The school also featured in the top sports schools in the country.

4. VOLTA REGION
BISHOP HERMAN SENIOR HIGH
Bishop Herman College (Biheco) are the most consistent academic performers in the Volta Region beating high school giants Mawuli, Keta Senior High and Ola Girls Senior High

5. GREATER ACCRA
PRESBY. BOYS’ SNR. HIGH SCHOOL
The blue magic lads reign by far in the Greater Accra beating Accra Academy, Achimota School, and Saint Marys Senior High to the top
Average pass rate: 82.22%
6. EASTERN REGION
ST. PETER’S SNR. HIGH SCHOOL
Catholic missionary schools are noted for their prowess in academics and St. Peters Senior High in the eastern just confirmed that notion. They are closely followed by Saint Roses Senior High, Pope John Senior High and Koforidua Sec-tech in that order.

7. CENTRAL REGION
WESLEY GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL
Central region is arguably the citadel of education in Ghana and suffers the toughest competition from top tier schools but the Wesley Girls High school has proved over the years that they are the best in academics.

8. ASHANTI REGION
OPOKU WARE SNR. HIGH SCHOOL
Yes!, the Opoku Ware lads beat their strong rivals Prempeh College in this very important stastistic. Their outstanding performances in WASSCE since 2011 is commendable by all standards.

9. WESTERN REGION
ARCHBISHOP PORTER GIRLS’ SNR. HIGH SCH.
The second girls’ school on our list and they happen to be catholic missionary school as well. They beat the likes of GSTS and Saint Johns Senior High to be crowned the best in the Western region.
Average pass rate: 79.04%
10. BRONG AHAFO REGION
JAMES SEMINARY SNR. HIGH SCHOOL
With this impressive pass rate, based on academic results from (2011-2015), St. James is not only the best high school in the Brong Ahafo Region, but the best in Ghana.
