Some SHS Gold Track Students to Vacate Today

Second-year Senior High School Gold Track students at schools where no COVID-19 cases have been recorded are set to vacate on Friday, July 31, 2020.

Schools that have had positive cases, can also vacate on July 31, if no new positive cases have been reported within the last two weeks.

In a joint-statement by the Ghana Education Service (GES) and Ghana Health Service (GHS), students in schools that have recorded positive cases of COVID-19 will have their vacation delayed for assessment and observation before they can be released.

Due to the coronavirus infections recorded in some of the high schools, government has outlined specific guidelines to facilitate the exit of these students.

“Any school where no positive case of covid-19 has been recorded, students can return home;

Any school that had a positive case but has not reported any new positive case within the last two weeks, students can vacate and go home;

Any school that had a positive case within the last two weeks, all contacts within the Gold Track will have their vacation delayed for assessment and observation before they can be allowed to go on vacation and parents of such students will be notified,” the joint statement indicated.

“We also want to express our profound gratitude to government for its support, especially the President for his resolve to see that the future of these children is not compromised by the outbreak of the coronavirus,” the statement added.


President Akufo-Addo, in one of his national broadcasts ordered a partial reopening of schools for final year and 2nd year Gold Track students to enable them prepare and sit for their final examinations and complete their first semester programme respectively.

It must be recalled that the students reported to school on June 22, 2020.

Some schools including Mawuli SHS, Mawuko Girls’ SHS, Bishop Herman College, Dabala Technical School, Accra Girls SHS, Archbishop Porter Girls, Ahantaman Girls, Diabene and Adiembra SHS, Nsein SHS, Konongo Wesley SHS, Odorgonno SHS, Mfantsiman Girls SHS and Suhum Senior High Technical School (STHS) recorded COVID-19 cases after reopening of schools.
