Spring, Texas burglars posing as people turn in the door while trying to break into Emerald Vista Drive

Spring, Texas (KTRK) – Authorities are warning people to be vigilant when someone arrives at their door unannounced after suspects in the theft impersonated DoorDash delivery workers at a home in the spring.

The attempted burglary was caught on CCTV March 5, all while the homeowner’s sister-in-law was sleeping inside with her nephew.

She said she knew something was wrong when she saw the broken window the next day, so she checked the cameras.

Video shows a woman knocking on the front door of a home on Emerald Vista Drive in the Harmony Subdivision. Deputies say she announced herself as DoorDash and stayed outside from 1:20 a.m. to 2 a.m. while four men entered the backyard and tried to enter the home.

Investigators said the suspects caused damage to the exterior of the house but were unable to successfully enter the house.

The house owner’s sister-in-law, who did not want to be identified for safety reasons, told ABC13, “I heard a sound that almost sounded like a metal snap.”

The suspect has a large flower tattoo on her right thigh and another floral tattoo on her wrist. All five suspects were seen leaving in a dark colored sedan.

“To see that they were four men, and only me and my nephew were in that house. They didn’t steal anything, but they took a lot from us. Whoever those people were, they took our peace and our sense,” she said.

She said it helps to get to know your neighbors and not open doors at any hour of the day or night to strangers.

“People really feel comfortable and feel safe in certain areas, and I would say don’t. Always. Just because you don’t think that way, and maybe your neighbors don’t think that way, doesn’t mean that other people aren’t going to come into your neighborhood and try to make a mess of your life,” she said. “.

“Do not open the door to anyone claiming to be from a delivery service unless you are expecting such a delivery, and even then, we recommend leaving items outside. Legitimate DoorDash drivers are happy to leave food outside without having to open the door,” the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said. In a press release.
