The Sharks Quiz Season 3: Presec-Legon beats Augusco
The Sharks Quiz Season 3 started last weekend at the TV3 Executive Theater, Kanda – Accra. The first stage of 45 public, private, international and junior schools has been to decide on the top 16 schools to qualify for the knockout stages at the preliminary stages.
These sixteen Junior Sharks teams qualified, by virtue of being among the top 4 last year or scoring among the top 12 schools in the preliminary stage.
The schools are Ghana Christian International High, DPS International, Manna International School, and Victory Baptist School. The remaining are Crown Prince Academy, Tender Care Preparatory, Bethel A.M.E Zion JHS, Burma Camp JHS, Forces Basic School, Osu Home JHS, Jays International School, Services Primary and JHS, LA St. Paul, JHS, St. Kizito JHS, British Columbia College and Golden Mission School.
At the senior level, these schools qualified: Opoku Ware School, Pope John Senior High and Seminary, Ghana Christian International High, Adisadel College.
The remaining are St. Peters Senior High, Presbyterian Boys – Legon, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Roses Senior High, St. Augustine’s College, Mawuli School, Keta Senior High, Accra Academy, Sonrise Christian High, Okuapeman Senior High, T.I Amass – Kumasi and University Practice Senior High School, Cape Coast.
In the first contest, Presbyterian Boys Senior High outclassed first-timers St. Augustine’s College in a super tensed contest. The sheer brilliance by the blue magic lads in the one-on-one round cemented their victory; 105-75 points it ended.
At the Junior Sharks level, British Columbia College advanced against Jays International School with a 110 pts to 80 pts margin in a free-flowing contest, British Columbia College qualifies to the round of 8.
This week, 29th February 2020, DPS International will face off Golden Mission School at the juniors level, while reigning champions Opoku Ware School will start their title challenge against newcomers University Practice Senior High School.
The Sharks Quiz, which has a broad appeal for junior and high school students focuses on the four key competencies: Literacy, Numeracy, STEM and Social Literacy.
The uniqueness about the competition is that it pounds on the use of innovation in the Quiz setup and focuses on how students really understand the practicability of what’s being taught in school and not just rote memorization of facts.
