UDS SRC calls for suspension of online programme over login challenges

The Students Representative Council of the University for Development Studies is asking school authorities to suspend the rolling out of its online learning management system until all technical challenges with the system is resolved.

This comes barely a week after the school moved to undertake academic activities for the rest of the semester online.

The SRC says that it has received numerous complaints from students, expressing worry over their inability to log into the school’s online platform even though they use the correct credentials.

“The Central SRC would want to beseech the university management to immediately suspend the ongoing online learning which have become the utmost approach to complete the syllabus for the second semester. This is because some of our students have been handicapped by unexpected difficulties they have confronted in their quest to access the platform,”part of a statement signed by their SRC President, Dagungong Clememt Binwatin, reads.

Although the SRC acknowledged the university’s ICT Directorate has been responsive in resolving the matter for some affected students, there are more who are yet to partake in online academic activities because of the login challenge.

“…we still have some students whose IDs have been submitted to the Directorate, so that their portals would be opened for them to register for this trimester; without which their details cannot be uploaded unto the e-learning platform, for them to thereafter login to the site. Such students have so far missed all lecture sessions that have been organized for their respective classes so far,” the statement adds.

The SRC is also saying that the “zero-rating of the UDS e-learning platform, which was promised in the stakeholders meeting held on Tuesday 21st April 2020 is not being realized in the area of live sessions with lecturers”

“Colleague students have sent us screenshots as proof of them being charged for accessing the platforms,” the SRC added.
