Student leaders at the University of Ghana Accra City Campus say that interim leaders have been appointed for its Students Representative Council.
The appointment of the interim executives was effected following a directive from the former Speaker of the General Assembly, Mr. Kweku Adjei Ampem to the main campus SRC and satellite campuses to appoint Interim SRC executives.
Outgoing SRC President of the Accra City Campus, Solomon Ocansey, in an interview on Campus Exclusive, intimated that the appointees will be inaugurated in the coming days to offset their constitutional mandate.
“Currently we have an interim management committee appointed. It is just left for them to be inaugurated for them to start their work as acting executives of the SRC. The constitution stipulates their functions and roles, and so the interim management committee are going to act as acting interim executives of the SRC but then their constitutional mandate is to conduct an election within the first semester,“ he said.
Solomon Ocansey further expressed that he empathizes with the pain of aspirants who were looking forward to an election after investing their time and resources in campaign activities.
“Looking at the kind of investments aspirants have put into their campaigns so far hoping that we could have elections this particular semester, I share in their plight, assuming I was in their shoes I would feel bad but the constitutional way must rightly prevail. I share in their fate but we are moving on with what the constitution stipulates it is not anyone’s fault for this to happen but then I think is in the right direction we do what the constitution says.”
