University of Ghana’s implementation of the double-track has indeed brought a bone of contention between students and Management as the University faces sharp opposition from the dual academic module it intends to use for the 2020/2021 academic year.

Management of the University of Ghana received numerous petitions from various groups and organization within and outside the University, after publication of its new academic calendar for the 2020/2021 academic year.

Among these groups includes, the University of Ghana Parliament House (UGPH) and Concern Legon Students (CLS) and other groups yet to be known.

The group sighted factual reasons for the reversion of the double track system such as, compromising of academic quality, undue pressures on students, availability of Covid-19 materials to ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and re-opening of tertiary institutions for the 2020/2021 academic year as early communicated by the Ministry of Education.

Notwithstanding the multiple petitions and complains received from sections of the public, UG’s management holds the believe that, the double track system has been needful because, they want to protect students from COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the pressures mounted on UG management over the double track implementation, it is said to meet to discuss issues relating to the dual academic calendar and other matters to hole out fixtures if there be , upon resumption from Christmas break.

However plans have been laid by students to go on demonstrations to register their displeasure over the divide should the University continues with its decision.

The question is that, Is UG going to revert its decision over the double track and forward or the assertions of the opposes be regarded “streets behind”?.
