Wassce Minded: Dadieso SHS allegedly extorts Money for ‘APOR’ Despite 2019 English Paper Cancellation

A source has disclosed that some teachers of the Dadieso Senior High School (SHS) located in the Western North Region has compelled prospective candidates to pay some specific amount of money in exchange for help during the conduct of the WASSCE scheduled for August 3, 2020.

The coded name for the money students are compelled to pay in exchange for the help in the forthcoming WASSCE for school candidates is “Sign off fee”.

According to the whistleblower, the candidates of the said school have been asked to make an unacceptable financial commitments to enable them to get access to the questions, solutions and leeway when the examination is ongoing.

The insider said this has been the practice of the school since 2016. In Dadieso Senior High School (SHS) the examination malpractice is engineered by some unscrupulous teachers who force students to pay money for help during the WASSCE.

Their illegal trade and activities have been a worry to a section of the school that believes this is the time to let the world know.

The whistleblower who spoke to Georgeweb.org under the condition of anonymity had this to say about the canker that has been happening at the blind side of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

“If I am to tell the kind of money which has been taken from students during WASSCE, you’ll cry and such practice started after we completed Senior High School”.

He alleged that after the teachers have taken the money, students are directed to come to the examination hall with an android phone.

The unscrupulous teachers engaged in this act are stationed within the school premises to solve the questions. The solutions are WhatsApp to the students in the examination hall to their phones on them.

This year too has become another illegal cocoa season for the group of teachers involved. From our whistleblower, for every elective subjects, the candidates are compelled to pay GH₵ 150.00 and GH₵ 100 per elective subject.

The school currently has no less than 300 candidates writing the 2020 WASSCE. Those involved would illegally earned at least GH₵ 75,000 as a result of sacrificing the integrity of the examination.

Our findings indicate that the school’s English subject paper was annulled last year and efforts by WAEC to find proof of examination malpractice were not successful due to the crook actors.

Through this publication, we consequently call on the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the non-profit-making organization (WAEC) responsible of the conduct of the examination to investigate these allegations and ensure students are not forced to engage in such illegal acts.

We entreat them to as a matter of urgency take the necessary actions on these activities alleged to be going on for the past five years. Get those found culpable arrested.
